COMMUNITY PARTNERS
Salve Regina University and St. Georges High School provide after school volunteers to assist TeamFAME students with completion of schoolwork and enrichment activities. TeamFAME students greatly benefit from these positive role models in their time at TeamFAME.
SALVE REGINA UNIVERSITY AND ST. GEORGES HIGH SCHOOL
Salve Regina University students and St. Georges High School students volunteer their time to support TeamFAME students after school. Theses volunteers assist students with homework, academic practice, and have fun playing games together! TeamFAME students enjoy time with these volunteers and are inspired and motivated daily by these individuals!
SERVICE ADVOCATE PROGRAM
TeamFAME is pleased to work with several students taking part in a Service Advocate Program at Salve Regina University. Service Advocates perform approximately 100 hours of direct community service working with TeamFAME students. Service Advocates participate in regular training, direct service and reflection activities. They practice valuable leadership in the Aquidneck Island community, endeavor to promote a positive culture of service, and increase volunteerism at local nonprofits. Students are dedicated, passionate and motivated and seek to make positive changes across campus and in the community.
SNAP-ED
SNAP-Ed is the nutrition education component of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly the Food Stamp Program), which is the largest program in the domestic hunger safety net. SNAP-Ed instructors visit TeamFAME students once a month to teach students how to choose and prepare healthy foods and be physically active on a budget. They also cook a meal together.
ISLAND YOUTH COACHING
Island Youth Coaching (IYC) works with TeamFAME students two times per month in the Canfield Learning Center. Using proven and research-backed coaching techniques, IYC provides lessons such as social emotional skills as well as using group role-play techniques for skill-building such as handling big/strong emotions and coping tools to use when feeling these emotions.
CITIZENS BANK
Citizens' Bank provides TeamFAME students with five-weeks of Financial Literacy Lessons. During these lessons, TeamFAME students are totally engaged in hands-on learning. Younger students play board games that teach about importance of saving money as well as learning about budgeting. Citizens team provides training for older students on how to complete an employer’s job application and tax forms as well as ideas about turning their hobbies into jobs. All students visit the local Newport Citizens Bank to further solidify their financial literacy. Older 8th, 9th 10th graders visit Citizens Corporate headquarters in Johnston for a valuable look at the plethora of job opportunities to inspire students to think about their future!
