YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS 2024/2025

During the 2024/2025 school year, TeamFAME served under-resourced middle school students in Newport and surrounding communities in our after-school program. One-on-one tutoring, tennis programs, social and emotional lessons, and enrichment activities continue to keep these children, who are in great need, active, engaged and growing in their love of tennis and the character benefits it fosters.

After-School Program

During the 2024-2025 school year the Chris Evert Learning Center (formerly known as the Canfield House) continues to serve as the home of TeamFAME. Every Tuesday and Wednesday, 6th and 7th graders attend our after-school program in addition to 5th and 8th graders attending after-school on Thursdays and Fridays.

Our program has expanded from last year and the collaborative effort between TeamFAME staff and the families continue to keep kids active, engaged, and growing in their love of tennis and the character benefits it fosters. This after-school program includes meals, tennis instruction, homework support and enrichment activities involving our community partners.

Summer Program

During the summer program, campers are provided meals, tennis instruction, enrichment activities, community service, and field trips to various locations throughout RI. These opportunities provide a positive experience for students to grow and thrive.

The summer of 2024 included field trips flying kites at Brenton Point, community service on Rose Island, participating in the Newport Public Library Summer Reading Program, and sailing on the Schooner Aurora.

High School Mentorship Program

TeamFAME alumni who are now in high school are serving as ambassadors for the program. They stay involved with TeamFAME through many ways including our Mentorship Program with Salve Regina Men's and Women's Tennis Teams. Monthly mentorship meetings are held throughout the school year where mentors and mentees gather for engaging on and off court experiences, learning valuable skills, balancing life as student athletes, and preparing for college.

COMMUNITY SERVICE/SUSTAINABILITY

TeamFAME students constantly find ways to give back and help their community through various projects. Cutting tennis balls for local schools to put on the bottom of classroom chairs, trash pickup on Rose Island, and maintaining a shared community garden are some recent initiatives students have participated in. TeamFAME high school students (ambassadors) give back to the program by volunteering with their younger teammates.
