Sotheby’s Executive Michael Goss and Hall of Famer Charlie Pasarell elected Chairman and Vice Chairman of International Tennis Hall of Fame


Additionally, 11 new Governors have been elected to the Board, including Hall of Famer Gigi Fernandez, global business executives, and experienced leaders in philanthropic ventures.

Michael F. Goss, Executive Vice President and CFO of Sotheby’s, has been elected Chairman of the Board of Governors of the International Tennis Hall of Fame, following his three-year term as Vice Chairman. Goss succeeds John Arnhold, who is concluding a three-year term as Chairman. Charlie Pasarell, a longtime tennis industry leader and a 2013 inductee of the International Tennis Hall of Fame has been elected Vice Chairman.

Additionally, 11 individuals hailing from varied backgrounds in business, media, and philanthropy, and all with a shared passion for the sport of tennis, have been elected to the Board of Governors of the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Stan Smith remains in the role of International Tennis Hall of Fame President, Laurie Erlandson continues her term as Treasurer, and Jim Citrin has been elected Secretary. The new officers and governors will officially begin their terms on January 1, 2019.

The new governors are Ray Arckey, Vice President/General Manager of Duracell; Lisa Baird, CMO of New York Public Radio; Elizabeth Brook, Director with Noodle Analytics; Frank Brosens, Co-founder of Taconic Capital; Gigi Fernandez, Hall of Famer and former doubles world No. 1; Pascale Hainline, Vice President of Global Wealth Management for Merrill Lynch; Jean-Marc Huët, former CFO of Unilever; Deborah Slaner Larkin, an experienced non-profit leader and former CEO of the Women’s Sports Foundation; Mounia Mechbal, Vice President of Marketing and Communications for Rolex USA, North America; Marko Mlakar, Managing Partner of Amrop Adria, an executive search firm operating in the Slovenian, Croatian, Bosnian & Herzegovinian, Serbian, and Macedonian markets; and Jeff Zucker, President and CEO of CNN Worldwide.

During Arnhold’s term he led the organization in developing a refreshed mission and implementing a new long-range strategic plan focused on customer engagement, philanthropic efforts, and broadening the organization’s reach globally. Additionally, during Arnhold’s tenure, the Hall of Fame conducted a comprehensive review and subsequent update to the policies and procedures that govern the induction process. Several new initiatives were introduced during Arnhold’s chairmanship, including a significant project to digitize the vast museum collection, the introduction of Fan Voting for Hall of Fame induction, and the recent launch of a National Junior Tennis & Learning chapter at the Hall of Fame.

Incoming Chairman Goss commented, "I am excited and honored to have been elected chairman of the International Tennis Hall of Fame. I've loved tennis for as long as I can remember, and I am inspired by the Hall of Fame's other governors and by how our organization is evolving in new ways to be of service to the sport. Goss joined the Hall of Fame Board in 2011. He has been an active member of the Executive Board and a broad range of other board committees, and in 2015, he was elected Vice Chairman. During his service to date, Goss has taken a leadership role in oversight of the non-profit organization's financial sustainability and strategic planning efforts to grow the Hall of Fame's work to preserve and promote the history of tennis and to honor its great champions.

Goss joined Sotheby's as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer in March 2016. Previously, he was with Bain Capital for 15 years in various capacities including Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer, during which time Bain Capital grew from $10 billion to $70 billion in assets. Goss graduated with a bachelor's degree in economics from Kansas State University where he played varsity tennis, and he earned his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. In addition to the Hall of Fame, he is a Trustee of Kansas State University and a member of the Board of Directors of Platform Specialty Products.

Vice Chairman Charlie Pasarell has been a driving force in the growth of tennis at all levels for well over 40 years, and he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2013 in recognition of his transformative contributions to the sport. He is the past Tournament Director, Managing Partner, and former owner of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, Calif. He was a co-founder of the ATP in 1972, and served as the tournament representative on the ATP board from 1990 – 2010. In 1969, Pasarell partnered with Arthur Ashe and Sheridan Snyder to create the National Junior Tennis League, which evolved to today’s 350+ chapter strong National Junior Tennis & Learning network, which utilizes the sport as a vehicle to develop positive life skills among young people. Like many tennis leaders, Pasarell got his start in the sport as a player, reaching the No. 1 ranking in the United States in 1967.

Following are brief biographies of the new board members:

Ray Arckey is VP/GM of Duracell, a Berkshire Hathaway company. In this role, he oversees e-commerce, home improvement, hardware, electronic, and global military channels. Previously, Arckey spent 36 years working for P&G, where he was a General Manager and handled new distribution channels and new business development. Arckey earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Florida.

Lisa Baird was named the CMO for New York Public Radio in September 2018. In this role, Baird will lead the marketing and audience development, data, membership, sponsorship, and communications teams. Most recently, Baird served as CMO of the United States Olympic Committee from 2009 - 2018. In this role, she directed the sales and marketing division and oversaw corporate sponsorship, properties, media, events, consumer products and direct marketing. Prior to joining the USOC, Baird served in a variety of sales and marketing roles for the NFL, IBM, GM, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and P&G. She currently serves on the Board of Elite Sportswear and Soundview Paper. Baird earned a B.A. and M.B.A. from Penn State University.

Elizabeth Brook is a Director with Noodle.ai, providing Enterprise Artificial Intelligence systems to manage complex business operations. In her role, Brook leads data science product development and implementations for Noodle's customers. Previously, Brook spent five years as Assistant Vice President for CSS, a global consulting firm that provides strategic leadership in philanthropy and fundraising services. She co-founded a volunteer run non-profit called Circle of Women, which provides education for women in developing nations. Brook earned a bachelor’s degree from Harvard College and is currently a part-time student at The Dartmouth Institute’s Master in Public Health program. She was born and raised in the U.K., where she played competitive tennis from a young age, going on to play varsity tennis for Harvard.

Frank Brosens is a co-founder of Taconic Capital. Prior to founding Taconic, Brosens was a General Partner at Goldman Sachs, where he was head of the risk arbitrage area, the stock options business, the equity derivatives area, the Japanese warrants business (which he co-founded), as well as co-head of the energy trading business. Brosens is a member of the Board of Directors for the Economic Club of New York and the Peterson Institute for International Economics. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He formerly served as Chairman of the Board of the Northern Westchester Hospital and as a member of the Board of Directors at PRINCO, the Princeton University Investment Company. Brosens received a B.S.E. in mechanical and aerospace engineering from Princeton University.

Hall of Famer Gigi Fernandez is a former world No. 1 in doubles, two-time Olympic gold medalist, and 17-time major champion. In recognition of her extraordinary career, Fernandez was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2010. Fernandez won 71 titles on the WTA tour including 2 singles, 52 doubles, and 17 Grand Slam doubles titles. In 2000, Fernandez was honored as the Puerto Rican Athlete of the Century. Since retiring, Fernandez has stayed highly active in the sport. She has served as a coach for the Puerto Rican National Team, the University of South Florida women’s tennis team, and for major champions Lisa Raymond and Samantha Stosur. While coaching, Fernandez completed her undergraduate studies and ultimately received a M.B.A. from the Rollins College Crummer School of Business. In 2011, as Director of Tennis at Chelsea Piers Connecticut, she discovered a new love for the game—teaching recreational players. During her tenure with CPCT, Fernandez created the highly successful “Gigi Method” an intensive doubles instructional program which is now available online at www.Doubles.TV.

Pascale Hainline is Vice President and Senior Financial Advisor at Bank of America Merrill Lynch Global Wealth Management. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch, she spent 25 years with Société Générale (SOCGEN) in the Corporate and Investment Banking Division in New York. In her last 5 years with SOCGEN, Hainline was Managing Director in the Credit Portfolio Management Group, managing and monitoring the Bank’s American assets. Hainline is on the Board of New York Edge, a New York based non-profit organization whose mission is to help bridge the opportunity gap among over 25,000 underserved students by providing after school programs designed to improve academic performance and self-confidence for success in life. She also serves on the Board of Savvy Ladies, a web-based non-profit organization which focuses on improving the financial well-being of all women. Hainline has been a member of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Investment Committee since 2009. Hainline has a Master’s Degree in Economics from the Université de la Sorbonne in Paris and received a post- Master’s fellowship award to study economics at the University of Chicago.

Jean-Marc Huët is the former CFO of Unilever, having held the position from 2010 - 2015. Prior to joining Unilever, Huët held the EVP and CFO roles at Bristol-Myers Squibb Company, as well as serving on the Executive Committee from 2008 - 2010. Huët was also a non-executive director at Mead Johnson Nutrition in 2009. From 2003 - 2008, Huët served as CFO and as a member of the Executive Board at Royal Numico N.V. He currently serves on the boards of Heineken (public), Canada Goose (public), J2 (public), SHV Holdings (private), and Evrythng (private). Huët is the father of two avid tennis players, ages 11 and 13. He holds an M.B.A. from INSEAD and a bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College.

Deborah Slaner Larkin is the former CEO of the Women’s Sports Foundation and has more than 30 years of executive experience in corporate, government, and non-profit leadership. Larkin served as the Women’s Sports Foundation’s CEO from 2014 - 2016, and was previously the organization’s Executive Director from 1986 - 1992. From 2010 - 2013, she served as the Executive Director of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Foundation. Between 1994 and 2002, Larkin served on the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, where she co-managed the President’s Council Report, Physical Activity & Sport in the Lives of Girls, and chaired the Committee on Minorities. She is currently working with the Aspen Institute’s Sport and Society – Project Play effort, which seeks to reinvent youth sports in America, fostering a culture of health through the building of “Sport for All, Play for Life” communities. Larkin currently serves on boards of the New York Junior Tennis & Learning and Bennington Aces. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon and a M.B.A. from the University of Maryland.

Mounia Mechbal is a member of the Rolex USA Executive Team and Vice President of Marketing and Communications. In her current role, Mechbal manages all aspects of the local marketing and communications strategies, which include partnerships with notable institutions such as National Geographic, USGA, PGA, the International Tennis Hall of Fame, the New York Yacht Club, as well as more recent projects with The Academy of Motion Pictures, and the USTA. Prior to joining Rolex, Mechbal spent seven years with American jeweler Harry Winston, in both New York and Geneva. As a Global Vice President of Marketing, she helped expand the international business and grow the product portfolio as a key element of the successful turnaround of the company. Prior to Harry Winston, Mechbal held executive positions at privately owned watchmaker Audemars-Piguet in New York and beauty company L’Oréal in Spain. Mechbal earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing and communications from Universidad Complutense de Madrid and an M.B.A. from the IEDE in Madrid and has continued her education at INSEAD and NYU.

Marko Mlakar is the Managing Partner of Amrop Adria, a leading executive search firm in the Slovenian, Croatian and Serbian markets. Established in 1977, the Amrop Partnership operates in Asia, EMEA and the Americas through 77 offices in 49 countries and is one of the world’s largest retained executive search partnerships. During the last 10 years, Mlakar has completed more than 250 search assignments across a number of industries including IT, telecommunications, management consulting, financial services, and media. The majority of his clients are international companies with regional aspirations. Prior to co-founding the local executive search firm, Mlakar served as a commercial counselor at the United States Embassy in Slovenia, responsible for all commercial related matters between Slovenia and the U.S. He began his career in a large Slovenian engineering firm. Mlakar holds a master’s degree from the University of Maribor. He also completed the General Management Program at IEDC Bled and the Amrop Trusted Advisor Program at IMD. He is a Vice President of Slovene Tennis Federation, member of the ITF Women’s Circuit Committee, member of Tennis Europe Junior Committee and president of International Lawn Tennis Club of Slovenia.

Jeff Zucker is President and CEO of CNN Worldwide, where he oversees the CNN US television network, CNN International, HLN, all of CNN's digital properties, and Great Big Story. Previously, Zucker had a 25-year career at NBC Universal that saw him become the company's CEO from 2007 – 2011. Zucker's ascent at NBC began during his nearly eight-year tenure as Executive Producer of NBC News' “Today”, during which time the show became the most-watched morning news program in America. Prior to assuming the helm at CNN in 2013, Zucker served as Executive Producer of former "Today" co-host Katie Couric's syndicated daytime program, "Katie." A five-time Emmy Award winner, Zucker graduated from Harvard College in 1986 with a bachelor's degree in American history. Born and raised in Miami, Zucker competed in USTA events as a junior and remains an avid tennis player. He is a supporter of the New York Junior Tennis & Learning.
