ITHF Class of 2018 Honored in Melbourne
Hall of Famers and tennis legends from around the globe gathered in Melbourne this week to salute the International Tennis Hall of Fame Class of 2018.
Germany’s Michael Stich, a Wimbledon champion and former world No. 2, and Czech tennis legend Helena Suková, a 14-time major champion in doubles and mixed doubles, have been elected to receive tennis’ ultimate honor this year—induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
A celebratory announcement of the Class of 2018 took place on Rod Laver Arena at the Australian Open, where other Hall of Famers and tennis legends gathered on court to celebrate Stich and Suková’s election into the Hall of Fame.
"This is a special moment for me to become a part of this row of champions," remarked Suková." I have goosebumps standing next to them!"
Stich was unable to make the trip to Melbourne this year, but sent greetings from his home in Germany, expressing his gratitude for the honor and admiration for his soon-to-be fellow Hall of Famers
"I'm honored to be part of such an elite group of great tennis players. They all have been role models and idols for myself since I was a junior."
Stich and Suková will be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame on July 21. Tickets for the induction ceremony will go on sale in an ITHF Advantage Program Pre-Sale on March 5, and to the general public on March 12. LEARN MORE. >>
