Hall of Fame Live With Todd Woodbridge
Todd Woodbridge, half of the doubles phenomenon known as The Woodies, sat down to talk with Blair Henley about his success on the court, life after tennis, and his rather impressive tap dancing skills.
Here are three things we learned about Todd on the most recent Hall of Fame Live.
1. He works well in pairs - on the court and the dance floor
He paired with his son Beau and dusted off his Dancing with the Stars Australia skills to create a Quarantine tap Routine. He told Blair his tennis footwork skills helped him learn the routine, but Beau, who works in theater, needed to talk him through frustrations when he didn’t get it quite right on the first go. Looks like they finally nailed it after a couple weeks of practice!
2. He Can’t Remember a Time Before Tennis
His mom played tennis before he was born, and he had his first lesson at four years old. He made his tournament debut when he was only 6 and from there he made his way on up the ranks quickly, playing (and beating) adults in Australian tournaments when he was just 10 and overseas at 11. He truly grew up on the courts!
3. He gets goosebumps thinking about his International Tennis Hall of Fame Induction
At one point in his early teens, he had a teacher tell him that he needed a career plan that didn’t involve professional tennis. Luckily, he put that advice to the side and followed his passion and skill on the court, eventually leading to him joining the ranks of the sport’s greatest players in 2010. He was inducted alongside Mark Woodforde, his famed doubles partner!
